Matakiri Tumaini Trust

Supporting skills development among disdavantaged youths

What We Do

We work with like-minded organisations to identify gaps that we can help fill with the expertise in our team. We are passionate about quality skill-based education in niche areas of computing. We also support the capacity development of colleagues teaching these subjects in schools and colleges. Our work cuts across different age groups and we promote initiatives that enhance community cohesion and that leaves no one out.

We are a Charity registered in the UK. Our main focus is to support youths to gain technical and entrepreneurial skills. Our key areas of work include:

  • Supporting youths to develop a robust work-ethic driven by an entrepreneurial and problem solving mindset.
  • Providing ICT skills, especially programming skills that are relevant for the job market of today.
  • Supporting disadvantaged youths, especially those with learning disabilities. We seek innovative solutions that enable us to provide inclusive learning environments for all our learners.
  • Community cohesion - we lead and champion breaking barriers by exploring sustainable and exciting ways in which different cultures can cohexist and mutually enrich each other.

The impact of education on young people is community-wide. Besides these youths being able to work and provide for their families, they are out of the streets, which means reduced crime.

Support Areas

We focus on a comprehensive spectrum of issues that lead to access to education.

Access to tuition

There are many youths with excellent attainment potential, but are impended by lack access to personalised learning. We identify these needy cases and support them with bespoke tuition schedules. We try to give each young person a fair chance to succeed.

Capacity Building

There are many school and college tutors who need to increase their subject knowledge through continuing professional development courses We work with various institutions to provide these tailor-made courses to the teachers during convenient times around their teaching engagements.

Learning Infrastructure

We often rent venues that have computers available. Most of our clients bring their own laptops, and this is encouraged so that they can continue practicing at home. Our learning materials are shared through a cloud service.

Mentoring

Young people need to have a realistic experience for how businesses work whilst studying. We bring mentors from the business community from different sectors to do workshops on how to get started, challenges, how to access capital, taxation, recruitment of staff and financial management.

Team

Our team comprises experienced researchers in health systems, educationists, curriculum developers, international development experts and computer scientists.
